This week I’ve seen plenty of posts on social media about what people are thankful for. They are thankful for their parents, their children, their grandparents, their jobs, their well stocked pantry and refrigerators, their homes. I am thankful for all of that! I wish I saw these kinds of posts all year long.
Recently, my son’s teacher posted a video for only the parents to see of her students saying what they are thankful for. The most adorable 1st graders that I have ever seen took turns saying that they were thankful for – their moms, dads, grandparents, dogs, even cows. One even said he was thankful for his teacher – God bless her! When the camera panned over to my son, he said that he was thankful for the army and how great of a job they are doing in protecting our country. (cue tears!)
I know that there will be moms and dads seeing that video and feel snubbed if their child said that they were thankful for their dogs and cows, not mentioning them, but I could not be more proud of my son. We do not have a family member currently in the military, but he knows and understands the sacrifice that service men and women make, along with their families, in order to keep us free. His thankless appreciation at a young age of that fills my heart with more joy than a mention on the video, and that is what I am most thankful for.
What is it that you are truly thankful for this season?
