Most of us have had to deal with hiccups at one point or another. That annoying involuntary body spasm that can ruin any day if you can’t get rid of them. There are as many causes, such as too much spicy food, eating too quickly, too much carbonation or alcohol, getting scared, and medications, as there are remedies.
Have you ever struggled to get rid of them? I mean, tried everything you could think of and still couldn’t get rid of them? I know I have! Everyone seems to have a method of getting rid of hiccups that they swear by. Some are passed down from older family members and others have been acquired by trial and error. Some of the remedies are effective, but some are just wacky. Plugging your ears and blowing air out of your mouth, or bite on a pencil (like a bit horse bit) and drink cold water, or tickling the roof of your mouth are just a couple. What are the strangest hiccup home remedies that you have heard of or tried?
Here are a few home remedies that I have tried and are successful, in my experience:
- Peanut butter-a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter should do;
- Lemon slice with sugar-sprinkle sugar on a lemon slice and suck on the lemon;
- Drink from the opposite side of the glass-put cold water in a glass, bend over at the waist and drink from the side of the glass farthest from you.
