Now that many of us are coming out of mandatory quarantines and businesses are allowed to open up again, I am begging people to shop locally. Restaurants, gift shops, movie theatres, pubs, retail stores, and more have been closed since the beginning of March, missing many holidays (Mother’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, even Father’s Day) that keep them afloat. Most of the businesses in my area are mom-and-pop shops. Part of Jeffersonville’s charm is that the main street businesses are locally owned.

One of my favorite places to eat and drink coffee is Lorenzo’s Bistro. The owners have become a real saving grace to our area. Aside from their amazing food and coffee, they are always looking for a way to give back to this community. They have a bookbag and school supply giveaway each year-no questions asked, just come in and pick out a backpack stuffed with your school supplies. They gave away baked goods and produce during the quarantine, including a breakfast and lunch programs for children in need. They are even a food pantry hub for Sullivan County, NY. They even donate to local fundraisers and charities, and crave to be a part of our school district’s extracurricular activities. Deservingly so, Sullivan County has recognized them as a “Hometown Hero”, and they have been open for less than two years!
Currently, they are moving next door to a larger space to accommodate the amount of people that order from there. They will even be serving wine and beer soon! So make sure you stop in when they reopen and say hello. They would love to hear from you! After a nice chat with the Lorenzo family, make sure you get your order in. You will not be disappointed! My favorites are the Caprese on Rye toast, their coffee, and the Farmer’s Special. Taco Bar on Fridays is usually a sell out. Their baked goods are homemade and ridiculously delicious. The burgers are mouth-watering. The breakfast skillets are enough for two and the bagels are fresh.
Great, now I’m hungry. You’ll find me at Lorenzo’s as soon as they open!
